TEXRail and La Línea Rosa: What's Running Now and What's Planned

Why separate running from planned?

Transit plans make great headlines, and they can make a commute look shorter than it is today. On our new apartments near transit page, we keep a clear line between service that’s running now and service that’s still planned. A planned line doesn’t count in anyone’s commute until it runs.

Here’s what exists today, and what’s coming.

What’s running now?

ServiceWhat it does
TEXRailCommuter rail from Fort Worth through North Richland Hills and Grapevine to DFW Airport Terminal B
Trinity Railway Express (TRE)Commuter rail east from Fort Worth toward Dallas
Trinity Metro busesLocal and frequent routes across Fort Worth
Trinity Metro ZIPZONEOn-demand rides in set zones
Via ArlingtonOn-demand rides in Arlington

TEXRail and the TRE both stop at Fort Worth Central Station Downtown. From there, TEXRail stations include Mercantile Center, North Richland Hills/Iron Horse, Smithfield, and Grapevine/Main Street before the airport.

What’s planned?

  • La Línea Rosa. A new Trinity Metro bus line, scheduled to start in fall 2026.
  • TEXRail Medical District extension. Expected about 2029. We’re verifying that date, and dates like this can move.

We verify before we count

When a planned service starts running, we add walk times for nearby buildings and update the commute notes. Until then, it stays in the “planned” column.

Who does this affect most?

Renters near the Medical District and the Near Southside feel it most, since the extension would serve the hospitals. If you work at Cook Children’s, JPS, or Texas Health Harris Methodist, our guide on Medical District apartments covers today’s options, from short drives to buses from Central Station.

Renters in Downtown Fort Worth already have TEXRail and the TRE at Central Station. We list each building’s walk time to the station as a fact.

Questions to ask about transit near a building

If transit is part of your plan, we’d check:

  1. What’s the walk time from the building’s entrance to the nearest stop?
  2. Is that stop on a line that’s running now?
  3. How often does service run at your commute times?
  4. Is there a park and ride if you’d drive part of the way?
  5. Would you still need parking, and what does it cost?
Your planWhat matters most
Rail every dayWalk time, frequency, first and last trains
Rail some daysParking cost on the days you drive
BusFrequency and the walk to the stop

We list walk times as facts and keep planned service out of the commute until it runs.

How do we measure “near”?

We measure the walk from each building’s entrance to the nearest stop and state it as a fact. A building that looks close on a map can sit across a highway from a station. We also use a 3-building guard: a transit group gets its own page only when 3 or more board buildings qualify.

Tell us the stop or place you need to reach. We’ll send a same-day list with walk times and the whole price for each building.
